4 Steps to a Neatly Packed Suitcase

Thanks to the vaccinations, there is hope for a summer vacation. As a Professional Organizer and Digital Nomad, I would like to present my tips for an organized suitcase:

Minimalistic Selection

You should only pack what you need. There is always the option to wash clothes, rent special equipment or buy local products in case you run out of shampoo or soap. It is also helpful to keep small bottles so that you can easily refill them instead of carrying big containers that are half empty.

Sorting by Category

When you selected all the necessary items, sort them by category. Personally, I have pants, skirts and dresses in one category and tops, underwear and socks, shoes, toiletry, technology, documents as separate categories.

Packing Cubes

No matter how hard you try to store your clothes neatly in a suitcase, you never find the right item on arrival and have to rummage through the whole suitcase. Therefore, my tip is to use packing cubes. They help to separate all items by category, so that you can focus on one packing cube at the time. Cloth bags are great for keeping shoes or technology together and separating them from the rest.

Folding Method by Marie Kondo

In order to keep an overview within a packing cube, I recommend using the folding method suggested by Marie Kondo. This means that each piece of clothing is first folded into a rectangle. Then it is folded so that it can stand upright. So, there is no T-Shirt on top of another, but rather next to each other so that you can see what you packed at a glance.

In the photo you can see my suitcase, which contains all my clothes. It is always packed for further adventures. I can’t wait to explore new places again and hope that the world will slowly open up again.
